Blue Apple is a place for the young at heart, who want to enjoy life without causing harm to others or to the world around us. It is a place of music, of life lived fully and with joy. We are proudly both international and Colombian, occasionally a little chaotic and always human. Our clients are just like us.
A WORLD APART
Tucked away on the southern shore of the island of Tierra Bomba, Blue Apple is an independently owned boutique hotel and beach restaurant with a strong focus on sustainable tourism. If you didn’t know we were here, you’d never find us. But at only 30 minutes from Cartagena de Indias, it’s surprisingly easy to get here once you know how.
We invite you to stop by for lunch, spend a few nights or move in with us for a month, to escape the real world and dive into our magical island life.
SPEND A NIGHT OR TWO
Blue Apple is a converted private home, designed using local architectural techniques and materials and we have created it to feel like your own beach house escape.
Each of our ten rooms is unique. We have five rooms in the main house and five standalone cabañas.
ENJOY LONG, LAZY DAYS AT OUR BEACH CLUB
Blue Apple was originally inspired by the laid-back but lively beach clubs in Ibiza and the South of France and a day spent here is the perfect antidote to the heat and hustle of Cartagena.
We don’t offer fixed packages, instead guests choose how to enjoy our slice of paradise:
A full day, an indulgent lunch or just a drink on the way home from the islands? It’s all cool with us.
FOOD AND DRINK
As a small hotel we have the luxury of following the slow food philosophy, where all dishes are made from scratch, never pre-cooked or defrosted. Our menu was inspired by Mediterranean favourites and local, Colombian-Caribbean specialities, made from fresh ingredients, sourced locally and sustainably wherever we can.
KEEPING BUSY IN PARADISE
If lounging poolside sipping freshly made cocktails isn't your thing...
Tierra Bomba is a huge island and with horses, scuba, local tours, a fortress and boats galore, there are loads of ways to explore and keep yourself occupied.
Actually, our management team lived at Blue Apple for five months during lock-down and we never ran out of things to do.
LONG TERM STAYS FOR DIGITAL NOMADS
As we face an uncertain winter, doesn't a month or three on a Caribbean island sound tempting?
WHO guidelines encourage being outdoors as much as possible. So, step from your outside office straight onto the beach. Ride a horse before your next virtual meeting. Get your PADI Open Water certification during your lunch breaks. Keep fit swimming, paddle-boarding, running, mountain biking, horse riding or with a personal trainer in our outdoor gym.
EASY BEACH DAYS FOR EVERY OCCASION
With two swimming pools, a large restaurant, outdoor lounge and of course, our beach, Blue Apple is perfectly set up to receive groups for any special occasion.
We can set aside an area for smaller groups of 10 or more to enjoy, or from 60 people the club and hotel are available for private hire.
Our remote beach front setting isn’t only good for rosé. Blue Apple is also a perfect location for retreats. You can either join a retreat in a shared or private room, or contact us to find out about hosting your own (up to 20 participants).
Yoga and meditation to sports, management, team building or a combination of it all.
RESIDENCIES FOR GIFTED SHARERS
Recent events have given us all an opportunity to consider what we really value. Blue Apple has always been and will continue to be a creative space for artists, musicians, poets, writers, yogis, photographers and anyone else who has a dream or a talent or a gift that they would like to share with us, our guests or our community, in exchange for board and lodging.
CONTRIBUTING TO OUR COMMUNITY
Blue Apple is located around half a mile from the village of Bocachica, on the island of Tierra Bomba. It can be reached by boat (there is no bridge) in around 30 minutes from central Cartagena. Bocachica is an important town in Cartagena's history and home to around 10,000 people.
Blue Apple is a proud member of Regenerative Travel.
If sustainability is about doing no harm, the concept of regeneration is to actively try to improve the world around us, environmentally, socially and economically.
Blue Apple is committed to improving our environmental credentials, and we recognise that broad social equality is vital to environmental survival.
When we opened, there wasn't anywhere quite like Blue Apple in the gorgeous walled city of Cartagena. So we made a little sister.
Townhouse is located right in the heart of town and has two busy bars. We live by the mantra that fancy doesn't have to be boring. You can expect to find all the comfort you're looking for, and a lot of fun as well.
Blue Apple guests get preferable rates, too.
From forgotten essentials to thoughtful souvenirs or small personal indulgences, take home a piece of your Blue Apple experience. All of our products are ethically and sustainably sourced, locally where possible. So you can shop guilt free.
HOW WE ARE KEEPING SAFE
Since March 2020 we have been closely following guidance from the World Health Organisation.
Our response to the pandemic is built around making everyone we come into contact with - staff, guests, suppliers, our neighbours - feel safe, cared for and informed and we employ thorough safety and hygiene protocols which have been approved by local authorities.
