Island Survivors' Tips

ELECTRICITY

Mains power goes out a few times a day. Although a little bit noisy, our back up generator keeps everything going. It can take a moment to switch from one to the other, and while the power is out the water pumps won't work, so bathrooms are out of service.

We do not turn electricity off at night, so if you notice you're without power, let us know immediately.

We also have our solar panels which generate about 75% of our energy. Let us know if you want to have a behind the scenes tour to see them!

WATER

Although it is fine for brushing your teeth, we do not recommend drinking tap water anywhere in Cartagena. At Blue Apple, complimentary bottled water is always available and each night we will leave a bottle by your bed. Our ice is made from drinking water.

Traditional island architecture is wonderful for air circulation and using local, natural materials, but not brilliant for rainwater collection.

Water arrives at Blue Apple on a boat, which you might see (or hear) in the morning. We are currently installing a solar-powered sea-water desalinator which will dramatically improve water quality while lowering the environmental impact of bringing water here.

BE SENSIBLE

For everyone's peace of mind, please keep cash, credit cards, jewellery, passports and other small valuables in your safe and keep your door locked when you’re not in your room. We accept no responsibility for items not left in your safe or at reception.

Remember that all beaches in Colombia are public, and it is not advisable to leave your belongings unattended on the beach or anywhere outside the hotel. Avoid taking valuables and large amounts of cash if you go to the village.

We do not recommend leaving the property at night alone - always go with one other person at least.
